Tegan Johnson, 12, has passed away from injuries sustained at Welch Village Sunday.
This is an unthinkable tragedy. Of course, our thoughts go out to the Johnson family. A day at the ski hill should never end like this. These hills are one of the last vestiges of freedom for over-scheduled, overburdened kids.
According to a report from FOX 9 in the Twin Cities, the Hastings, Minnesota boy was found injured on a closed trail. He was unresponsive when ski patrol arrived.
He was pronounced dead at an area hospital Tuesday.
Welch Village gave the following statement to FOX 9:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young skier. We would like to thank all the first responders and the Welch Village Ski Patrol for their help. We ask for your continued prayers and support for the skier’s family.
Our hearts go out to the folks at Welch Village, too. I can’t imagine how the patrol staff and administrative staff are dealing with this tragedy. Welch is a quality place with quality people that I’m sure have been gutted by this.
